The information below comes from the Santa Fe County Volunteer Fire District. If you have further questions you can call them at the Santa Fe County Fire Prevention Office at 505-992-6523.
ISO
collects information (such as nearest water supply, fire station,
station staffing, number of personnel, number and type of fire
trucks, pumping capacity, emergency communications, community risk
reduction, etc.) on municipal fire-protection efforts in communities
throughout the United States. Based on the information, a numerical
rating (Public Protection Classification –PPC) is given to the area
which is used by insurance companies to determine fire insurance
premiums.
When a district has a split classification, such as 5/9, the first
number is the class that applies to
properties within 5 road miles
of the responding fire station and 1,000 feet of a creditable
water
supply (fire hydrant, suction point, or dry hydrant). The second number
is the class that applies to properties within 5 road miles of a
fire station but beyond 1,000 feet of a credible water supply.
There are two new classifications that may appear with the number classifications ‘X’ and ‘Y’. The 'Y' Classification is part of the ISO Rating for the La Puebla Volunteer Fire District. This information should be given to your insurance agent.
All the fire hydrants in the area served by Cuatro Villas MDWUA are part of the water system infrastructure. Because of this extensive infrastructure homes within the La Puebla Volunteer Fire District now have a 4/4Y ISO Rating. We used to have a 7 or higher rating. Be sure your homeowners insurance representative is aware of the new lower rating.
